Staff Training and Development

Creating an inspired staff training and development program should be the priority of any company looking to maximise productivity across their workforce. Here we discuss a few areas that should be considered before implementing staff training and development.

Firstly you need to deliver an exciting and memorable training workshop that has a lasting impact on your learners. The staff training and development workshop should be designed to capture your staff's thoughts and identify learning outcomes as well as providing you with an ongoing point of reference when you implement the training and development with the workplace.

Remember all of your staff are different so appealing to all of your learners all of the time is pivotal to the success o any staff training and development program. Broadly speaking your workforce can be broken down into four "learner categories." These are visual learners, intellectual learners somatic learners and auditory learners.

The four types are relatively easy to identify within the workplace and on any staff training and development seminar. Visual, auditory and intellectual learners process the material you deliver to them by seeing, hearing and thinking. Therefore your workshops must include imagery, sound and thought provoking material to stimulise your staff's ability to learn. Whereas somatic learners are more touch and feel and require the training and development workshop to be an experience. Techniques to involve these types of staff include puzzle sessions, group activities and toys to play with during the course.

Whatever your aim for a staff training and development program it is crucial that the focus remains on the benefit to your workforce. If there is a genuine learning outcome, poductivity and effectiveness of your workforce will increase, maximising the return on your investment.
